2011 Tournament Champions!Updated Tuesday August 30, 2011 by Mark Dulniak.
In our 2nd season in the Co-Ed B Division, Old Fockers came together after two grueling days of intense games to take the championship that escaped us in the regular season.
Saturday's game was a defensive battle against the Grasshoppers who had previously beaten us 4-3 in the final game of the season. Old Fockers buckled down its defense and relied on Paul as our hope of offense. Paul delivered in the clutch as he netted all 4 goals. Mark had 3 assists sending Paul down the field, one on three, against the Grasshoppers with Jamie adding the final assist on a cross-field chip over the Grasshopper defense. Old Fockers 4 Grasshoppers 2
Sunday afternoon's game was another defensive struggle with our opponent, Aftershock, controlling the ball nearly 75% of the game mostly on our side of the field. With Paul's arrival, he sent a beautiful left-footed cross to the back post which Tyson firmly headed into the back of the net. Aftershock bombarded our goal with shot after shot that Bryan was able to deflect, getting lucky on a shot that hit the upper crossbar of the field goal posts before rolling into the net. Bryan scored his first shut-out of his career on the important semi-final win. We put them away in the final 10 minutes of the second half with a free kick from Paul from 35 yards out, over the defense which Mark volleyed into the far corner of the net. Old Fockers 2 Aftershock 0.
After declining to play early at 6pm, the championship game against AC Kicks kicked off at 8pm under the lights at Schumpert Park. AC Kicks stunned us in the opening minutes after a pass back to the goalie was short, and AC Kicks pounced on the open opportunity to put the ball into the net. The 1-0 deficit did not last long as Nathan sprinted down the field and was fouled in the penalty box. Nathan calmly rifled the PK into the net tying the game. From then, our offense picked up its pace as Nathan netted another goal from 20 yards out, driving it right under the outstretched goalie. With two guy subs and an extra girl for the first half, we played our style game and passed around the AC Kicks. Paul scored on a hip deflection from Mark's corner kick, putting us up 3-1. A few minutes later, Mark added a goal as Paul crossed the ball from the right side. The second half provided us with two more goals from Paul and Kevin to grant Old Fockers the win, 6-1.
The fall season looks promising with the addition of a few new players. The keeper, Josh, will be untested in the Co-Ed B Division as will new additions Victor, Shawna, and Danielle. Old Fockers are currently recruiting additional girls for the fall season, and hope to retain Kaihla after her sprained right arm from the tournament.
